The Government of Uganda developed a programme "Efficient and Sustainable Energy Supply in Uganda" for selected investments in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency. One of the projects supported under this programme is the construction of Nyagak III Small Hydro Power Project (SHPP). The SHPP is designed as run-of-river plant, with an installed capacity of 2 x 3.3 MW and an expected maximum generation of 27.1 GWh per year.

The Nyagak III SHPP shall be implemented as a public-private partnership (PPP) for which UEGCL and the PPP partner will establish a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) that will undertake the construction and operation of the SHPP.
